This last Saturday one of our invstigators rode up to us on his moto (literally so many people cruise around in motorcycles here it´s wonderful. The only thing that out-numbers people on motos are dogs. Dogs are every where. Walking around, barking through fences, dead on the side of the road - you name it! Dogs. I love it. Love dogs.) Uh, any ways, Francisco rides up to us and says, ´Hey, are you two going to church tomorrow?´ ´...Uh, yeah.´ ´Okay, see you there!´ All in Spanish, of course. But Elder Ozcariz Choi and I were stoked on that. Unfortunately, his girlfriend, who is a member, didn´t end up going to church yesterday which resulted in him not coming either. No biggie though! Francisco is so sweet. There is another wonderful woman we´re talking to named Lita who has been looking for the right church for a long time. She is super smart and has a huge bookshelf with encyclopedias and giant books in her house, which is pretty rare in this area of Argentina. She has such a strong desire to learn and understand more about the Saviour and His teachings. We had the opportunity to do some lawn work for her on the property she´s building her house on, which is fun. I got to use her massive weed wacker that you attach on to your back to hold the weight. The grass was like waist high and thus it felt very empowering to slice huge stocks of weeds in half. Also a lot of ants here have gigantic hills which were also hidden in the waist high grass. Every once in a while I´d be destroying some weeds only to feel a mixture of dirt and ants pounding against my body as I unknowingly desecrated an ant home. But how great are opportunities to serve? There are few better ways to follow the Saviour´s example than through service of our brothers and sisters.
I´ve recently adopted a futbol team, for better or for worse. There are two main teams in Argentina - Boca and River Plate. I chose Boca and never looked back. And since literally every one here asks you which cuadro (team) is yours I either get a lot of groans or a lot of cheers whenever I meet some one.
I honestly love all of the people here so incredibly much. There is always laughing and good-spiritedness. Even after these two weeks I know that this is where I am supposed to be. Life is not easy for a lot of people here, and I´ve had some wonderful experiences of people opening up and just talking. What a comfort it is to have a message of a Saviour for them! A Prince of Peace. I know with every fibre of my being that the Atonement is real. It can be applied to every single part of your life. Our incredible Redeemer Jesus Christ took upon him the pains and sicknesses of every person so that He can understand perfectly every person. He does understand and He will one hundred million percent of the time help you if you come to Him. As this season of Christmas begins, always remember that the birth of the Saviour resulted in not only a ministry and church of teachings for every aspect of our lives, but in an Atonement for every part of our lives. I hope every one has already watched the new Christmas video A Savior is Born. I watched it again this Sunday at the Bishop´s house for lunch and it´s still way way good even in Spanish.
I have two native Spanish speakers in my pench at this moment (Elder O.C. and Elder Roman) and few things bring more joy to my heart than when they try to use American phrases. Elder Roman knows much less than Elder O.C. so his heavy accented English moves me to tears often.
Beloved family! How I love all of you! My life here is incredible and nothing makes me happier than walking down roads of dirt and mud amongst my canine friends. I love it here more than I thought I could and that love continues to grow daily.
Ciau,
Elder McDonald
